Two weeks after Connected Health & Care Summit, Tom Ross – Product Manager at RLDatix, has provided his relfections on the two days.
I have attended and presented at many summits over the years – this one being my 11th – but this year I was especially struck by the enthusiasm and energy our customer base has to solve real healthcare challenges.
There were lots of exciting announcements for customers to hear about from a product perspective. From the new roster views we’re bringing to Activity Manager, closer integrations between Jobplan and Optima or the wealth of great improvements coming to Loop, there was a lot for customers to sink their teeth into.
For me personally it is always most rewarding to listen and learn from organisations on how they’re using our products – especially in the medics domain. This year we had more sessions on medics than ever before and all of those sessions were packed. It was clear to me that organisations really want to lean into medics to ensure that their Resident Doctors and Consultants are planned and rostered as effectively as possible while also thinking carefully about their wellbeing. Self-rostering is an important piece of that puzzle and it’s great to see so many organisations using Optima and Loop to enable that.
There were so many standout sessions this year, but if I had to pick one in particular it would be the session delivered by Dr Jonathan Fenwick on crafting effective and balanced doctor schedules. As many people who work with doctor’s schedules will know, there’s a lot of thought, collaboration and consideration that needs to go into creating schedules for doctors.
For many attendees they go home energised and reinvigorated to solve challenges in their organisations, and I know for myself and many others at RLDatix the same applies to us.
Last week we launched The Connection: Where Tech Meets Humanity In Healthcare on Apple Podcasts 👉https://apple.co/3Yt3krS and Spotify: 👉 https://spoti.fi/3NukJtZ
The new podcast focuses on exploring and understanding the complexities of healthcare systems through conversations with professionals who share their real-world experiences.
Co-hosted by Liz Jones and Darren Kilroy, we emphasise the importance of placing people at the centre of technology, discussing how it can support operational efficiency, enhance job satisfaction, and always stay anchored in safety.
In our first episodes, we are joined by:
🎙️Leigh Malyon, Head of Medics at RLDatix
🎙️Helen Hughes, Chief Executive at Patient Safety Learning
Last week we attended the NAMPS Annual Conference 2024. Darren Kilroy (Medical Director), Hannah Kitchen (Product Specialist) and George Webb (Business Development Manager) were on hand to discuss the most challenging areas of productivity and how we can support with:
- Effective Workforce co-ordination
- Job planning to maximise clinical productivity
- Activity based rostering
George Webb reflected: “Improving the working lives of Residents rotations was high up on everyone’s agenda. We had a lot of conversations around how self-rostering fits into this, and the functionality that we’re developing to support and manage the process.”

At the beginning of October, we attended the Acute and General Medicine Conference 2024 at the Excel in London.
During the two days our team ran interactive workshops exploring planning, rostering and reporting – examining what makes for a good experience in the use of technology for clinicians. And to make the technology do what it is designed to do – deliver safer health and care. Themes covered in the workshops included:
✅ Best practice in medical rostering for safe and efficient care
✅ Making best use of incident reporting
✅ Job planning for safety, productivity and wellbeing
If you want to find out more about what we spoke about during the workshops, get in touch with the team.
Here are the key learnings the team took from the event:
Dr Darren Kilroy – Medical Director: “What resonated with me was the ongoing variability in how available functionality is enacted from user to user and Trust to Trust and the potential we still need to realise there.”
Tom Bird – Customer Success Medics Team Lead: “My main learning was how closely linked job planning is to a good culture. At organisations where staff feel heard, job planning is more successful.”
Chris Bond – Medical Rostering Specialist: “The need for doctors to work across different rosters is crucial. This highlighted the importance of being able to assign rosters according to a doctors skills and confirming my theory that the pathways across which doctors (and their rosters) are shared is growing.”
Olga Chalupczak – Product Manager: “My key learning is the critical role feedback plays in fostering a positive reporting culture. Providing doctors with updates on the progress and outcome of the incidents they report, not only encourages continuous reporting but also reinforces the value of their contributions to the overall safety and improvement process.”
